PRIMARY IMPACT:

Provides analytic/diagnostic services or uses highest level technical skills which noticeably affect work results.

DUTIES:*

1. Operate and interact with the IBM 3090 host processor and all its peripheral devices through software via system console commands.

2. Provide high level technical support to administrators, faculty, staff, and students using software utilities and personal experience.

3. Maintain and monitor the voice registration central processing unit.

4. Program the automated operations functions for mainframe system using several types of programming languages.  Ensure timely completion of production jobs.

5. Execute production processing schedule, assuring successful completion of data backups, production jobs, and system output.

6. Monitor Local and Wide Area networks using IMS, LAN Network Manager, and other software systems, correcting problems or escalating as necessary.

7. Provide installation and configuration support of PC equipment, printers, and software.

8. May supervise staff including other computer operators and student assistants.

9. May coordinate after-hours maintenance; deal with vendors and repair technicians.

 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the IBM 3090 mainframe operations , its associated components, and the following computer operating systems:  MVS-XA, VM-CMS, RSCS, PVM,  SMART, TSO, VTAM, CICS, PC-DOS, and Windows; various tools and equipment of the trade; telecommunications and associated equipment; Local and Wide Area Networks and troubleshooting devices and techniques; and various software applications.

Skills in programming for REXX, CLIST, and KSL; and good oral/written communication.

Ability to work with all levels of users; work independently, use good judgment, solve problems, and make reliable decisions.

May be required to lift/push/pull objects weighing up to fifty (50) lbs. and assist in lifting objects weighing up to seventy (70) lbs.

 MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION

Minimum: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent formal training.

Preferred: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent formal training.

Specifically, the position requires an Associate's degree in Computer Operations or related field.  Additional years of job-related experience beyond minimum requirement may be substituted for Associate's degree on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Minimum: Three to four years.

Preferred: Three to four years.

Specifically, the position requires four years of job-related work experience in computer operations.  Some experience in a senior or lead position is highly desirable.
