PURPOSE:
Developing programs and processes that provide a service to students, and/or other internal College or District customers.
ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
(+) Advanced Support Services. The employee provides direct services to customers or supports others with advanced support services by one or more of the following: - Carrying out investigations, analytic, or diagnostic services that support decision-making or action taken by management or professional staff. - Applying advanced vocational-technical skills to ensure that a function or unit achieves its goals.
DUTIES:*
1. Design solutions to user requests and problems; develop specifications to implement these solutions.
2. Code programs with the most efficient language; define input data for useful testing strategies in logic tests within programs.
3. Answer users' questions concerning program errors and job requests.
4. Investigate problems by examining computer dumps and analyzing computer code from in-house programs and/or package software. Provide solutions by recommending program or procedure changes and/or user data entry.
5. Assist other programmer/analysts in designing and modifying software systems.
6. Document the procedures for users and for scheduling new or modified programs; provide training in their use.
7. May oversee the completion of the VEPSE and IPEDS reports for the District and all campuses.
8. Provide 24-hour on-call operational support for problem determination and resolution.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
In depth knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer science. Working knowledge of various computer languages and tools such as CICS, COBOL, EASYTRIEVE, MVS JCL, CMS, and TSO; District databases; mainframe and PC application environments.
Ability to grasp new languages and development tools; communicate effectively (oral and written); analyze problems; provide solutions and strategies.

PROBLEM ANALYSIS
The employee deals with issues or problems that often require thoughtful reasoning before coming up with approaches or solutions. The search for solutions may be accomplished relatively quickly. However, the search may require more study based on standards or approaches defined by management or the proper professional/technical discipline.

Does not deal with students or community members.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION
Minimum: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent.
Preferred: A Bachelor's degree.
Specifically, the position requires a degree in a computer/technical area. A Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum: One to two years.
Preferred: Three to four years.
Specifically, the position requires one year of job-related experience with
a Bachelor's degree. With an Associate's, three years of job-related
experience is required.
