DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Plans and directs all aspects of an assigned accounting area; Performs a wide range of advanced, professional and highly technical accounting work of a varied nature within assigned areas of financial responsibility for the district
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:*
1. Leads or chairs the development or revision of procedures or operating policies. Reviews accounting and reporting systems, procedures and completed assignments of other staff to ensure compliance with ACCD policy and outside agency regulations.
2. Analyzes records of expenditures and encumbrances and recommends necessary changes; checks and verifies the accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
3. Manage and account for transactions in assigned accounting area.
4. Gather data and prepare monthly reports for management.
5. Perform account reconciliations to ensure operations are effective, policies and procedures are followed, assets are safeguarded, reliable financial data is maintained and internal controls are in place.
6. Recommends alternatives to management when accounting data indicates trends or situations requiring action. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS); accounting theory, standards, and practices; budget and grant administration; tax laws and their application to various accounting transactions and problems; management principles and practices; computerized accounting system; spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of computer software to include Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Good oral/written communication skills
Highly developed interpersonal skills
Ability to learn the District’s accounting systems; handle multiple priorities; meet deadlines and resolve problems
Demonstrate level of confidence, maturity, judgment that allows independent problem resolution in a real time environment.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required
A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in accounting or related field is required
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
