PURPOSE:
Improving operational efficiencies through the implementation of operational improvements, or through the management of College or District resources.
ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
Expert Services or Work Unit Supervision provided by the employee in one or more of the following: - Organizing, planning for, developing, and directing a work unit. - Serving as an organization-wide expert in a professional or technical area.
DUTIES:*
1. Formulate, recommend policies/procedures to Chief of Public Safety.
2. Supervise Patrol and Administrative divisions and assist all supervisors; assess situations and advise employees; recommend courses of action including disciplines; commend employees.
3. Act as Chief of Public Safety in absence of the Chief.
4. Conduct interviews and background checks on departmental hires.
5. Maintain liaison with external law enforcement agencies.
6. Research equipment needs and make recommendations for purchases.
7. Supervise Investigations Unit.
8. May supervise Training Unit as directed by Chief of Public Safety.
9. Attend meetings at all campuses.
10. Perform special projects as assigned by Chief of Public Safety.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Family Code, Traffic Code, federal statutes, ACCD rules and regulations, building codes, fire alarm systems and boundaries, traffic control procedures, criminal and accident investigation procedures, law enforcement computer management systems, and word processing/Microsoft database applications.
Proven skills in human relations, public relations, and communication (oral and written).
Proven ability to supervise police and safety patrol operations and personnel. Must be available for on-call duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess Intermediate Certification by Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Officer Standards in Education (TCLEOSE); a Texas Peace Officer License; Texas Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) certification for dispatch; and a current Texas Driver’s License (must be insurable by ACCD insurers).

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION
Minimum: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent.
Preferred: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent.
Specifically, the position requires a minimum of 60 college hours including courses in Law Enforcement, Political Science, or Business Administration.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum: Three to four years.
Preferred: Five to eight years.
Specifically, the position requires a minimum of four years of supervisory experience preferably in law enforcement.
