OPERATING TITLE: PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, managing, and directing all operational areas of one of the colleges.
Supervision received: Administrative Direction
Supervision exercised: Upper level manager
RESPONSIBLE TO
Chancellor of the District
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*
Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the college. Oversee the daily administration and operation of the college, interpreting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with ACCD and other legal requirements.
Present and recommend to the Chancellor actions relating to personnel changes, evaluation and professional development of faculty and staff, and long-range plans.
Prepare and execute the annual budget following approval by the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees.
Supervise the process of annual performance reviews for all personnel.
Develop and maintain academic standards and curricula in accord with community needs and accreditation standards.
Maintain a coordinated program of student support services.
Develop college operating procedures which are consistent with board policy and District administrative memoranda and recommend changes in District policy as appropriate.
Serve as the official contact person with private, local, state, and national agencies and be the principal spokesperson for the college in public activities.
Responsible for meeting reporting requirements of the college.
Promote good working relationships and maintain involvement with the business community, as well as with educational entities.
Ensure effective student recruitment and retention programs, maintaining a friendly and healthy campus environment.
Maintain liaison with the ACCD Development Office on college-specific fund-raising activities.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of college administration.
Comprehensive knowledge of District/college policies pertaining to academic division personnel policies and guidelines.
Comprehensive knowledge of technology and its use and application in community colleges.
Good knowledge of federal and state legislation pertaining to fair employment practices.
Good knowledge of principles and practices of budgeting in an academic (college/university) environment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, students, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to organize and direct major work operations and work under pressure of deadlines.
EDUCATION
An earned Doctorate degree in higher education management or related field, but preferably in an academic area.
EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of administrative experience at the Dean’s level or above and three (3) years of full-time college teaching experience.
