TITLE: VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COLLEGE

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, managing, and directing, the operation of the areas of arts and sciences, occupational/technical education, learning resources, extended services, and program development.
Supervision received: Administrative Direction
Supervision exercised: Upper level manager
Responsible to: The President of the College
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:*
Interprets academic standards and policies of the college to students, faculty, administrators, and the general public.
Serves as the chief academic and student services officer of the college.
Supervises, in conjunction with the President, the activities of the College Deans.
Participates in the development of academic division personnel policies and procedures.
Interviews and evaluates credentials of prospective faculty and recommends salary scale placement of new faculty.
Monitors professional development activities for faculty.
Coordinates operation of the Office of the Vice President with other administrative offices.
Serves on numerous committees within the College and the District.
Serves as the chief executive officer in the absence of the President.
Exercises, in collaboration with the President, the College Institutional Effectiveness function.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

EDUCATION:
Master's degree required. An earned doctorate is strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of experience in college/university administration including three years of high level supervisory experience is required. Three years of teaching at the college/university level is preferred. Community college experience is strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
No extraordinary physical requirements.
