TITLE:  DEAN OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, EXTENDED SERVICES,

EVENING & WEEKEND OPERATIONS

CLASS CODE:  4264

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

General Statement of Duties:  Performs work of unusual difficulty in assisting and representing    the Vice President of Academic Affairs in planning and directing the instructional         activities and programs of the Extended Services, Continuing Education, Evening/                  Weekend and Afternoon division.

 

Supervision received:  Administrative Direction

 

Supervision exercised:  Upper level manager

 

Responsible to:  vice President of Academic Affairs

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*

 

Interprets and implements academic standards and policies to faculty, students, and general public.

 

Recommends, develops, and administers budget for operation of Extended Services/Continuing Education/Evening and Weekend College/Northeast Learning Center to insure operation within fiscal constraints.

 

Acts as ombudsman in resolution of problems and conflicts involving faculty, administrators, and students within Extended Services, continuing Education, Evening and Weekend College.

 

Coordinates development of curriculum and class schedules each semester, including class loads and decisions on retention/deletion of courses or programs.

 

Coordinates classroom assignments and facility use, inventorying for maximum space utilization.

 

Plans and coordinates the registration for Extended Services, Continuing Education, Evening/Weekend and Afternoon programs.

 

Plans and directs publicity and promotion of Extended Services, Continuing Education, Northeast Learning Center, Evening/Weekend College and Afternoon Education programs.

 

Reviews action for employment, placement, and termination of Extended Services, Northeast Learning Center and Continuing Education staff.

 

Represents college to community, including civic, business organizations and other, to assess needs for Extended Services and Continuing Education programs.

 

Serves on numerous committees or policy-making bodies of the college/District/state.

 

Coordinates operation of Extended Services, Continuing Education, Evening/Weekend College, and Afternoon programs with other college/District departments/military bases/business and industry.

 

Coordinates the operations of the Northeast Learning Center for maintaining the academic standards and continuous programming improvement.

 

Coordinates development and scheduling of Extended Services with appropriate college/ACCD departments.

 

Maintains responsibility for management and administration of the college’s out-of-district programming.

 

Assists in developing of class schedules and teaching and space assignments for maximum space utilization on campus and at satellite locations.

 

Coordinates the development of the class schedule in conjunction with Department Chairs, Military Base Commanders, and Education Service Officers.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge in planning, developing, and implementing occupational programs and policies that meet State and Federal agency guidelines, accreditation, and certification standards.

 

Demonstrated knowledge of and success in college administration.

 

Comprehensive knowledge of or ability to understand and implement District/college policies and procedures.

 

Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of budgeting in an academic environment (college/university).

 

Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices related to curriculum/program development and evaluation.

 

Considerable knowledge of Coordinating Board guidelines on vocational and technical education programs.

 

Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with budgeting, planning, monitoring, and accounting in an academic (college/university) environment.

 

Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, student, and the public.

 

Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures; knowledge of college administration and campus operations.

 

Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with district employees, students, and the public.

 

Ability to organize, direct, and evaluate instructional programs and personnel.

 

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Master’s degree in Education, Business, Public Administration or a related area is required; doctorate preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Substantial experience in teaching/training, program planning and college administration with a proven record of increasingly broad responsibilities.
