JOB DESCRIPTION
OPERATING TITLE: DEAN OF EVENING, WEEKEND, AND DISTANCE EDUCATION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs work of unusual difficulty in assisting and representing the vice President for Academic Affairs in planning and directing the academic activities and programs of the Extended Services division of one of the colleges.
Supervision received: Administrative direction from the Vice President
Supervision exercised: Upper level manager
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*
Interpret and implement academic standards and policies to faculty, students, and general public.
Recommend, develop, and administer budget for operation of Extended Services to insure operation within fiscal constraints.
Act as ombudsman in resolution of problems and conflicts involving faculty, administrators, and students.
Coordinate development of curriculum and class schedules each semester, including class loads and decisions on retention/deletion of some courses or programs.
Provide classroom assignments and facility use, inventorying for maximum space utilization.
Plan/coordinate the registration for Extended Services programs.
Plan/direct publicity and promotion of Extended Services programs.
Review credentials, interview, and recommend hiring of staff for successful operation of Extended Services.
Initiate/review actions for terminations.
Represent college to community including civic, business organizations, and others to assess needs for Extended Services programs.
Serve on numerous committees or policy-making bodies of the college/District.
Coordinate operation of Extended Services with other college/District departments.
Coordinate development and scheduling of the Weekend College with the Deans of Arts and Sciences and Occupational Education and Technology.
Maintain responsibility for management and administration of the college's Telecourse programming.

QUALIFICATION FOR APPOINTMENT
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Demonstrated knowledge of and success in college administration.
Ability to develop and implement college policies and procedures.
Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, planning, monitoring, and accounting in an academic environment (college/university).
Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Ability to organize and direct major work operations and work under pressure of deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION
Master's degree in Education, Business, Public Administration or another job-related area is required.
EXPERIENCE
Substantial experience in college teaching, administration, and program planning and development with a record of increasingly broad responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regular and recurring work is performed in a work environment that involves normal everyday low risks or discomforts typical of offices. Work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
