VICE PRESIDENT:  ACADEMIC LEADER

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties:  Performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, leading, managing, and directing the operation of the areas of transfer, occupation/technical education, learning resources, extended services (dual credit, off-campus, distance learning, etc.), program development, instructional technology, and effectiveness and evaluation of credit programs.

Supervision received:  Direction from the College President

Supervision exercised:  Upper level manager

RESPONSIBLE TO:  President of the College
 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop a strong academic team that focuses on student success, student learning, and innovative approaches to supporting learning.

Lead, support, and evaluate the work of the academic cluster leaders and directors.

Lead the implementation of the college planning and effectiveness process for the academic areas of the college as well as learning resources and instructional technology.

Provide leadership in the preparation and management of the college budget for academic clusters, instructional technology, and learning resources.

Create and oversee an effective acquisition and management system for technology resources for the academic area of the college.

Ensure the implementation of an effective faculty development program for full-time and adjunct faculty, consistent with the college mission, goals, and priorities.

Lead the academic team in the planning, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the college catalog, class schedule, and facilities use.

Provide leadership, supervision, and support in planning for faculty and staff needs and in implementing hiring and evaluation processes that support student learning.

Participate in the development and implementation of college and district policies.

Promote innovative curriculum development, instructional design, and revitalization processes.

Interpret academic standards and policies of the college to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Serve as a member of the college leadership team and promote cohesiveness and coordination among team members.

Represent the college on various district councils and committees.

Effectively represent the college in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

A vision for excellence in student learning that is consistent with the Northwest Vista College culture.

Knowledge and understanding of college administrative practices; understanding of operations of a multi-college/campus district desirable.

The ability to provide leadership in planning, budgeting, and implementing institutional effectiveness systems as they relate to student learning.

The ability to organize and lead the operations of the academic area of the college, to cultivate a learner-centered environment, and to foster excellence.

Effective communication and team-building skills across all areas of the college.

The ability to represent the college effectively in a variety of district and community settings.

An understanding of and commitment to the student-oriented philosophy of the community college.

A commitment to fostering student success, quality programs, and faculty, innovation, and integration of technology.

Experience

 Combined five (5) years of college-level teaching and/or administrative experience.

Education

 Master's degree required; doctorate preferred.
