OPERATING TITLE:  DEAN OF ARTS/HUMANITIES/SOCIAL SCIENCES

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

General Statement of Duties:  Performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, developing, and implementing college transfer and certification programs in assigned academic areas.

 

Supervision received:  Administrative direction

 

Supervision Exercised:  Upper level manager

 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*

 

Assist in developing curricula and budgets for responsible college transfer and certification programs.

 

Develop academic/instructional teams with respective chairs and faculty.

 

Assist in formulating and maintaining the academic standards for responsible college transfer and certification programs.

 

Assist in development of class schedules and assignment of space for maximum effectiveness of resources.

 

Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate instructional programs and faculty.

 

Serve on committees and councils for the District, college, community, or professional associations.

 

Implement and monitor the rules and regulations of the District, the college, and appropriate agencies.

 

Assist with implementing college appeals and grievance procedures in the area of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

 


Work with department chairpersons to achieve effective, current, and professional classroom instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Demonstrated knowledge of and success in college administration.

 

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.

           

Experience with planning and budgeting in an academic environment.

 

Knowledge of program and curriculum development, implementation of innovative teaching methods, and evaluation methodologies in Fine Arts.

 

Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with District employees, faculty, students, and the public.

 

Ability to organize and direct major tasks.

 

EDUCATION

 

Master’s degree in a job-related area is required.  Doctorate in a job-related area strongly preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Five years of experience in college teaching, instructional administration, program planning and development, planning and budgeting in an academic environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Regular and recurring work is performed in a work environment that involves normal everyday low risks or discomforts typical of offices.  Work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
