DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Under general supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Governmental and Public Relations, assist in coordination of the District’s public relations activities including print and broadcast advertising, publication design and printing, and special events promotions; assist in establishing and maintaining a consistent image for the District; assist in achieving marketing objectives; and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*
Plan and implement the District public relations activities to promote a positive image.
Assist in the creation of the district print and broadcast advertising campaigns.
Works in coordination with outside advertising agency to maximize the ROI of print and broadcast media.
Works directly with college PR Directors to develop and execute cross-functional strategic marketing programs.
Oversee effective media relations for the college/District, such as publicizing its events, activities, and achievements; serve as college/District spokesperson to the press and general public as necessary.
Support the institutional marketing campaign, including design/placement of college/District-specific advertising.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of media/public relations protocol, photography, graphic design, printing, and production.
Skills in writing/editing, personnel management, budget and departmental goal planning, interpersonal relations, communication/public speaking, and word processing/desktop publishing.
EDUCATION:
A Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications,
journalism, or a closely related field. A Master's degree is preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Five to eight years experience in public
relations/marketing/advertising.
A minimum of five (5) years professional
experience as a public relations practitioner performing a variety of public
relations and marketing activities, including writing, publications, media
relations, radio/TV/print ad production, media buying, and special events
planning. A demonstrated record of success in dealing with the
media is required. College or university experience and at least one year
of supervisory experience preferred.
