TITLE:  DISTRICT DIRECTOR OF NURSING

Class Code: 4373

 

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

General Statement of Duties: Coordinates and directs Nursing programs that are consistent with the objectives of the District and needs of the community. Uses knowledge of planning, developing, and implementing Nursing programs and policies meeting State and Federal agency guidelines, accreditation, and certification standards. 

This position is responsible for attracting resources that will exceed the cost of the office.  

 

Supervision received:  Administrative direction

 

Supervision exercised:  Upper-level manager

 

Responsible to:  Vice Chancellor in conjunction with appropriate Presidents

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*

 

            Maintains liaison with cooperating agencies in administering programs, including coordinating with and researching of prospective employers for determining Nursing programs for the placement of graduates.

 

            Represents the District to the Coordinating Board, community, business, educational, and other organizations regarding Nursing.  Ensure that all accrediting agencies correspond directly with the chancellor, with copies to the appropriate Vice Chancellor, the appropriate college President, and the Director.

 

            Serves as a liaison with the healthcare community.

 

            Serves on numerous councils and committees at the District or College level.

 

            Coordinates formulating and maintaining the professional and academic standards for Nursing.

 

            Develops, in conjunction with the Colleges, curriculum, area plans, and budgets for Nursing programs.

 

            In conjunction with the Colleges, develops strategic goals and objectives that reflect and are in alignment with the District’s strategic vision.

 

            Assists in supervising, coordinating, and evaluating Nursing programs.

 

            Coordinates with the offices of District Institutional Research, follow-up studies of students to determine effectiveness of programs.

 

            In conjunction with the Colleges, maintains records, inventories, and operating budget for maximum efficiency and accountability.

 

            Directs the assessment and maintenance of Nursing program statistical records.

 

            Coordinates with the offices of Institutional Research at each College, collection and warehousing of statistical data.

 

            Publicizes and promotes the Nursing programs in the community.

 

            In conjunction with the Colleges, works with the healthcare community to obtain clinical sites for district students.

 

            Coordinates with the ACCD Foundation to solicit resources for Nursing programs.

 

            Works with the healthcare community and other appropriate parties in resource

            development for Nursing.

 

            Works with the healthcare community and the Colleges to recruit Nursing   

            Faculty, including working with other universities to establish a "Grow Our Own"    

            Program to prepare future Nursing Faculty. 

 

            Other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Demonstrated knowledge of and success in college administration management.

 

Knowledge of Nursing curriculum and program development for the purposes of career preparation and updating, placement of graduates and program startup and development.

 

Knowledge of key Nursing areas as related to current and emerging programs.

 

Knowledge of federal and state legislation pertaining to Nursing education, employment practices, equal opportunity and affirmative action, licensing, and accreditation.

 

Knowledge of state coordinating and regulating agencies.

 

Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, planning, monitoring, and accounting in a college/university environment.

 

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

 

Knowledge of computer utilization and technology impact on Nursing programs.

 

 

EDUCATION:

 

Master's degree in a job-related area is required.  Doctorate strongly preferred.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Eight (8) years of experience in college administration management or nursing program development, including teaching at the college level with a record of increasingly broad responsibilities.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Regular and recurring work is performed in a work environment that involves normal everyday low risks or discomforts typical of offices.  Work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
