                                TITLE:  DEAN OF INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMS

                                                            Class Code:  4376

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties:  Establishes objectives, goals, policies and procedures; supervises staff; directs, develops and evaluates current and new services and programs related to interdisciplinary programs in the academic area; prepares and assures conformance with the budget.

Supervision received:  Administrative direction.

Supervision Exercised: Upper level manager.

Responsible to:  Academic Vice President.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES*

Supervises, guides and supports faculty and staff (Distance Learning, Dual Credit, Service Learning, Faculty Development, Title V grant activities, Weekend College and Learning Communities, ASK/QEP, Student Development Course)

 

 

Directs, develops, coordinates, and evaluates interdisciplinary programs designed to enhance student success.

·        Directs, coordinates, expands, and improves current programs and services.

 

·        Coordinates with Institutional Research to determine educational service program needs analysis, trends, and forecasts.

 

 

Serve on Academic Council, Strategic Leadership Team, and College Leadership Council

Implement and monitor the rules and regulations of the District, the college, and official agencies as appropriate.

Coordinate an Honors program,  International/Global initiatives in the academic area, etc.

Maintain records, inventories, and operating budget for maximum efficiency and accountability.  Engage in ongoing purchasing and budgeting activities.

 

Represent the college and the district through travel and community involvement, as well as extracurricular activities (conferences, convocation, honor’s ceremony, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement policies and procedures

Demonstrated ability to develop interdisciplinary programs and innovative curriculum/teaching methods

Knowledge of Distance Learning delivery systems and other technology related to educational services

Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with District employees, faculty, students, and the public

Ability to organize and direct major work operations

Ability and skills to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

Knowledge of and experience with budgeting, planning, monitoring, and accounting in an academic (college/university) environment preferred

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in a related field

EXPERIENCE:

Substantial experience in college teaching, instructional administration and program planning and development with a record of increasingly broad responsibilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regular and recurring work is performed in a work environment that involves normal everyday low risks or discomforts typical of offices.  Work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
