TITLE: VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

General Statement of Duties:  Primarily responsible for the student support programs of the Alamo Community Colleges (ACCD). Provides leadership in establishing ACCD student support goals, objectives and KPIs, in developing, implementing and coordinating District-wide programs to accomplish these goals, objectives and KPIs, and for district-wide representation of ACCD student matters.

 

Responsible for ensuring the adequacy and effectiveness across the district of student support programs, student life, student government and the effective integration of student and academic programs and initiatives that ensure student success.

 

Responsible for providing direction, leadership, and general oversight to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Program Development/Support.

 

 

Supervision received:  Administrative direction

 

Supervision exercised:  Upper level manager

 

Responsible to:  Chancellor

 

 

*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Assumes the primary responsibility for developing, administering, supervising, coordinating, reviewing, and evaluating the activities of district-wide student educational support services and programs including, but not limited to: Student Financial Services, Student Programs, Transfer Services, Military Education, Student Sports & Recreational Activities, Student Leadership Institute, and other assigned areas.

 

Leads the ACCD Strategic Planning efforts for Student Success.

 

In conjunction with the Presidents, Vice Chancellors, and Chancellor identifies priorities; initiates and recommends policies and procedures; and reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of student support programs, recommending and implementing appropriate strategies.

 

Chairs the district Student Success Council.

 

Develops and maintains strong internal and external organizational relationships to further district and college goals and to shape future programs.

 

In consort with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Communications and the General Counsel, monitors legislation and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) rules/regulations to evaluate the impact on ACCD programs, and coordinates response and drafts necessary to related policies and procedures related to students and student support programs. 

 

In consort with college Presidents and other Vice Chancellors maximizes the use of technology in providing student matriculation and support services at on and off campus locations and online.

 

Assists the Colleges in facilitating the resolution of student issues

 

Serves on the Chancellor’s Executive Committee and Cabinet

 

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Chancellor

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Demonstrated knowledge of the administrative functions of a multi-college or multi-campus community college district. 

 

Knowledge of federal, state, local, and THECB laws and regulations.

 

High level of organizational skills.

 

Outstanding oral and written skills to articulate the ACCD’s policies and goals.

 

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.

 

Ability to work collaboratively with others in a large, diverse, and complex educational institution.

 

Ability to evaluate complex issues and problems and negotiate solutions.

 

Ability to utilize computer technology to access data and communicate.

 

Ability to manage people and issues and to make and communicate decisions effectively and in a timely manner. 

 

 

EDUCATION

 

Master’s degree; Earned Doctorate degree preferred

 

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Seven years as Chief Student Affairs Officer and/or experience as a cabinet level administrator in a multi-college or multi-campus community college district is required.  Some teaching experience is preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
