POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:  EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ACCD FOUNDATION

 

CLASS CODE: 4392

GRADE: ADMINISTRATOR B/6

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

 

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

To provide leadership to the Alamo Colleges and the ACCD Foundation Board for the effective operation of the Foundation and its programs.    

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:*

1. Provide direction, coordination, lists of specific goals and objectives, timeframes, budgets and leadership for major external fundraising; coordinate District and college-based fundraising efforts to effectively achieve the mission, objectives and goals and to develop the foundation in accordance with the Alamo Colleges’ vision of becoming the best in the nation. 

2. Write proposals to secure funds.

3. In conjunction with the Alamo Colleges Public Relations office, develop public relations plans and materials to promote the ACCD Foundation and its fundraising programs.

4. Effectively communicate with the Foundation Board, Colleges, system staff, and external entities to achieve Foundation goals.  

5. Develop the Foundation’s strategic plan in collaboration with the District and Colleges and for the implementation of the Foundation’s policies, procedures and strategic plan. 

6. Assist in acquiring major capital gifts from individual, corporate, foundation, and other non-governmental funding sources and manage gift coordination system.

7. Ensure compliance with all policies, rules and IRS regulations and reporting requirements with the Texas Attorney General;

8. In conjunction with Financial Services, the Chancellor and the ACCD board, develop and administer the Foundation’s budget ensuring compliance with Foundation’s Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, including ensuring the production of accurate and timely monthly financial statements furnished to the Board.

9. Manage Foundation Board meetings, capital campaigns, special events and working committees of the Foundation Board.   

10. Develop/oversee the Alamo Colleges planned giving programs.

11. Provide administrative supervision of unit budget preparation.  

12. Develop materials to promote the Foundation and its fund raising programs.

13. Employ, evaluate, and supervise departmental staff members to create a cohesive, professional “team” engaging all persons within the Office of Institutional Advancement.   This person should also develop or update departmental staff members’ job descriptions, observe and evaluate individuals in writing, and establish benchmarks and objectives for all personnel to meet.

14. The leader should ensure that all office personnel project a business-like attitude and dress professionally as they deal directly with the public. This person and his or her staff must project the right image of total professionalism of the Alamo Colleges and the Foundation at all times.

15. Maintain the integrity and distribution of any and all Gift Agreements executed by and between Donors and the Foundation to ensure the scholarship and/or endowment specific amounts and earnings are properly distributed according to the criteria and terms set out in said agreements. This would include providing an accounting and reporting the status of the Gift Agreements to the Donors at least annually.

16. Ensure effective collaboration with District Financial Aid so all awards are effectively and properly awarded and accounted for.

 

17. Effectively nurture and develop current and potential donors and ensure effective operating practices that support donor development.

18. Advise the Chancellor on Institutional Advancement policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Extensive knowledge of foundation fundraising principals, methodologies and practices for colleges and similar educational institutions

 

Planning, organizational, managerial, leadership, and communication (oral/written) skills

 

Innovative and creativeness abilities and experience desired

 

Demonstrated ability in cultivating/securing major capital gifts

 

Possess and/or displays the personality and chemistry necessary to effectively and professionally interface with the general public, the Alamo Colleges, the ACCD Foundation, Inc.,  Board of Directors, all existing and potential donors and other community leaders, individuals, foundation and organizations

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related development experience with successful professional fundraising results is required.

A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of related development experience with successful professional fundraising result is preferred, experience in higher education specifically is desirable.

 

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable through ACCD insurers.  Complete Texas defensive drivers course as required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
