PRIMARY IMPACT:

Provides analytic/diagnostic services or uses highest level technical skills which noticeably affect work results.

DUTIES:*

1. Interact with children during daily routines; with supervision, plan/implement developmentally appropriate activities; promote positive self-esteem; provide quality care.

2. Assist in room preparation for CCMS designated vendor and NAEYC accreditation.

3. Assist in supervision of assistant teachers, teacher aides, work study students, and lab students assigned to the classroom.

4. Assist children using developmentally appropriate guidance techniques for individual management and group management, including but not limited to transitions, routines, and group times.

5. Assist with maintenance of the physical environment for safety and security, including inspecting center for health and safety hazards, maintaining supplies and equipment and notifying supervisors of safety/health needs.

6. Assist with observations of each child for developmental milestones; document children’s conversations and work.

7. Assist with completion of departmental forms that record accidents, child medication, diaper chart, CCMS, attendance, meal counts, etc.

8. Assist in room arrangement, outdoor equipment and furniture as needed.

9. Provide a classroom environment rich in ethnic and cultural differences.

10. Attend staff/parent meetings and center events.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of principles/practices of child development/early childhood education; minimum standards for day care centers; designated vendor(s)/NAECP accreditation criteria.

Skills in oral/written communication; human relations; supervision.

Must be able to lift/manipulate up to 40 lbs.; move furniture/equipment; frequently stoop, squat, bend, and easily get up/down to the floor.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must have current First Aid/CPR certification; negative TB test results; 2 doses of measles vaccine; current tetanus immunization; and Hepatitis B immunization.

JOB EMPOWERMENT

The employee carries out instructions within an existing work routine.  There is some leeway for changing the order of assigned tasks.  However, prior approval is required before changing the nature of the work performed or before dealing with unassigned tasks.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION

Minimum: A formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration.

Preferred: An Associate's degree or equivalent.

Specifically, the position requires a Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, OR a one-year certificate in Early Childhood Education, OR a Child Care Administrator certificate, OR 36 college hours in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.  The incumbent must complete 20 clock hours of Child Development training each year.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Minimum: One to two years.

Preferred: Three to four years.

Specifically, the position requires one year of full-time experience working with children under six (6) years of age.
