Job Title                                           :    APPRENTICE HVAC MECHANIC (6047)

PRIMARY IMPACT:

 

Completes assigned tasks as requested.

 

DUTIES:*

 

1.         Assist in the maintenance and operation of electronic/pneumatic control systems.

 

2.         Assist in daily/periodic inspection of all A/C and heating equipment and facilities, including waterlines, valves, drive belts, steam traps, expansion tanks, etc.

 

3.         Operate air conditioning ventilation, refrigeration, and control equipment.

 

4.         Repair/troubleshoot icemakers, walk-in freezers, and air conditioning/refrigeration equipment.

 

5.         Perform chemical tests and water treatment in cooling towers, swimming pools, and boiler systems; may maintain pool chemicals, controls, and water temperature.

 

6.         Clean/maintain wall furnaces and central systems and change filters.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of principles of HVAC and work methods, tools, and materials used.  Working knowledge of electronic/pneumatic control systems, chill water/boiler plants, kitchen equipment reparation, wall furnaces, central heating/air conditioning units. 

 

Effective oral/written communication skills. 

 

Ability to follow detailed oral/written instructions; establish/maintain effective work relations.  May be required to lift up to 75 lbs. alone, move more than 100 lbs. with help, and work in cramped spaces and inclement weather conditions.

 


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

 

Must possess a Freon Recovery Certification, and a valid Texas Driver's License (must be insurable through ACCD's insurer).

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION

 

Minimum:         A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

 

Preferred:         A formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration

 

 

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum:         One to two years. Enrollment in a formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration can be substituted in lieu of experience.

 

Preferred:         Two to three years

 

Specifically, the position requires a minimum of one year of experience in the HVAC field; Enrollment in a formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration can be substituted in lieu of experience.
