PROCEDURE FOR CREATION OF A NEW POSITION

When a department within the ACCD requests or is approved for a new, non-faculty position, the following steps should be followed:

1. Contact the Compensation Manager in Human Resources (208-8060) and request a Job Analysis Questionnaire (JAQ).

2. Complete the brief questionnaire, explaining the primary duties, job purpose, and necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. The Compensation Manager can assist you with this document if you wish.

3. Once the JAQ is returned to H.R., the Compensation Manager will evaluate the position using the Hay Point Factor methodology. It may be necessary for the Compensation Manager to call or visit with the supervisor for more information.

4. The compensation for the position will be determined based upon internal pay structure and market data. For non-exempt positions (clerical, technical, maintenance, etc.), the San Antonio labor market data will be utilized. Only for those positions which would normally be advertised nationally, will regional and national salary data be studied.

5. The Compensation Manager will contact the hiring department with a final determination regarding classification and compensation. In most cases, this response will come within one week of the receipt of the JAQ.
