Degree Plans

The Department of Early Childhood Studies has two programs, the Early Childhood Studies Program and the Teacher Assistant Program.

In addition the San Antonio College Department of Early Childhood Studies has a 2+2 Agreement with Texas A&M University-Kingsville for a B.S. in Human Sciences, Child and Family Studies Concentration.

The University of Texas at San Antonio offers 3 B.A.A.S. degrees that accepts the coursework from the A.A.S. in early childhood studies.

 



Early Childhood Studies Program:
The Department of Early Childhood Studies at San Antonio College offer two associate degrees, two technical certificates, and a 15-credit-hour certificate for Early Childhood Studies Associate Training.

Associate in Applied Science - Early Childhood Studies
This program is designed to train personnel competent for a variety of jobs in the child care industry.
 

Technical Certificate - Early Childhood Studies
This certificate is designed to train personnel competent for entry level jobs in the child care industry.

 

Technical Certificate - Child Care Administration
This certificate in Child Care Administration is recognized by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services as meeting the educational requirements to qualify as a director of a child care center. TDPRS has additional experience requirements.

Fifteen Hour Certificate - Early Childhood Studies Associate (CDA) Training
This sequence of courses provides preparation for assessment for the Early Childhood Studies Associate Credential (CDA). Students must be employed in an approved early childhood program and working with children of the appropriate age for CDA credential sought.

Teacher Assistant Program:

The Department of Early Childhood Studies at San Antonio College offers one certificate program and one AAS degree program for classroom teacher assistants employed in public and private schools. These certificates are designed for people who:
· Work in an early childhood classroom
· Work in a bilingual classroom
· Work in a special education classroom
· Work in an inclusive classroom
· Are interested in working in one of these settings
