Maimon (2nd ed.) Handbook Study Guide

The items in the first column list the areas of format and appearance that writers need to observe and follow for serious academic work. Read up on this information in the pages given for the second edition of the Maimon handbook. After this term is over and you write in your chosen field, check for the specifications used in your discipline by finding each item below in the style guide's index, looking it up, and matching it.

Every sentence in your essay should have some of your words in it, even if and especially if it is a direct quotation.

  • No quotation should appear by itself as a sentence.
  • Introduce all direct quotations with words such as "According to one scholar, ..." or "One well-known film reviewer says that. . .".
  • For a print source, a credit tag introducing each quotation is required in addition to the parentheses giving the page number.
