Course Description:

How to assist eCollege students in using library resources on the Internet to find, evaluate, and use information effectively for research projects.

Topics to be covered include:

Defining and narrowing a research topic, devising an effective and flexible search strategy, searching online library sources, selecting and linking to databases for specific subject areas, evaluating online sources and search results, citing online sources, and selecting the best search engines for free academic web sites.

Must attend entire 1.5-hour training session. Participants will create and email a research plan for a sample topic, use advanced search techniques to identify relevant items in a variety of online sources, and evaluate and cite an online source.
