II. Expected Program/Unit Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course work required for the Associate in Arts, the student
will be able to :
• synthesize the formal issues of visual art into hands-on plastic productions.
• identify materials and processes required to accomplish the production of individual creative works.
• critically analyze and explicate works of visual art in verbal and written form.
• utilize discipline specific terminology in meaningful discussions about examples
of visual art.
• understand works of art in their cultural and chronological contexts.
III. Measures of Program/Unit Learning Outcomes:
• Presentation of critically viable creative works of visual art.
• Written and verbal critiques of speculative examples of works
of visual art.
• Written exams focusing on discipline specific terminology.
• Studio performance.
• Written research projects
A. To ensure that our unit reaches these goals, our faculty members pursue the following outcomes.
• Course content complies with curriculum recommended by the Texas Association of
Schools of Art and Texas Higher Education Board.
• Continued updating and refinement of the curriculum has positioned the Fine Arts Program
in a leadership role in the arts community, and has prepared qualified students for transfer
to local, regional and national art institutions and public four universities.
• Internet sections of Art Appreciation and Art History reach more non-
traditional students.
• Course offerings are reinforced by providing a healthy, secure and well-equipped learning
environment that includes state-of-the-art technology.
B. To achieve these program/unit outcomes, the Fine Arts Program employs the following strategies:
• Maintains studio and shop facilities and equipment for use in hands-on student
productions.
• Maintains active exhibition program and gallery facility.
• Offers Cross-Cultural “The Mexican-American Experience” Art Appreciation course.
• Requires students to locate and visit museum and gallery venues to study examples
of art and art history.
• Offers annual art Lecture and Film series.
