Visual Arts departmental Scholarship winners are recognized at the San Antonio College Annual Juried Visual Arts Student Exhibition Opening Reception every spring. Each student is presented with a certificate of achievement from the department recognizing the particular scholarship awarded.

Scholarships in the Visual Arts are awarded to students in the department that have demonstrated outstanding achievement in course work in fine art and digital design classrooms. Nominees are selected by Visual Arts faculty members. Awardees and finalists are selected by the department's scholarship faculty committee based on individual scholarship criteria and overall academic achievement.

Departmental Scholarships - Visual Arts

SAC Visual Arts Nomination - Area College Competition
Robert and Laura Fainter Endowed Memorial Scholarships
Scholarship Minimum Requirements:
Scholarships are awarded on a merit basis. Deserving student nominees must demonstrate overall outstanding performance in the studio classroom and produce excellent artwork. Recipients need not necessarily be returning students, but continuing their education at an accredited institution.
The Robert and Laura Fainter Scholarships require recipients must be Fine Art or Digital Design majors in the VAT department in good academic standing at San Antonio College and be nominated by a member of the Fine Art/Digital Design Faculty. Award amounts vary. See list of past winners and award amounts.
Fiesta® San Antonio Commission Scholarship Program
Merit and financial need-based Scholarship.
San Antonio area competition for college and university art students. The Visual Arts faculty nominate one outstanding visual arts/fine art major to represent the department and San Antonio College at the area wide competition.
To be considered, students must be enrolled full-time (12 to 18 hours) in one of San Antonio’s accredited schools of higher education. Visual (fine) art must be the major field of study. Students must also meet an academic level of achievement of 2.5 QPA/GPA or better. Students must be able to demonstrate bona fide financial need and not already be receiving a major grant. One student per school year will be selected by that school’s art department faculty as a nominee. Each nominee will then be interviewed by the Fiesta Commission’s scholarship committee and his or her body of work will be reviewed, along with verification documents of academic achievement and financial need. Award Amounts, Time frame Annual scholarship awards will not exceed $3,500. Scholarship funds will be made payable to the school for application against the awardee’s tuition, fees and books. The award will not be made in cash or directly to the awardee. The Fiesta® San Antonio Commission may also, at its option, purchase an example from the awardee’s body of work for an amount not to exceed $500, paid directly to the awardee.
