The Westover Manuscripts: Containing the History of the Dividing Line Betwixt Virginia and North Carolina; A Journey tothe Land of Eden, A. D. 1733; and A Progress to the Mines( 1841 ). Edited by Edmund Ruffin. Byrd's writings were first published in this volume.

Another Secret Diary of William Byrd of Westover for the Years 1739-1741. Edited by Maude H. Woodfin, Decoded by Marion Tinling. Dietz Press, 1942. The decoding refers to the transcription of Byrd's shorthand. This second volume includes 'Letters and Literary Exercises of William Byrd, 1696-1726' as well as some other selections including A Discourse Concerning the Plague and a satirical piece, 'The Female Creed.'
