The Gothic novel, which had its heyday in the 1790's was satirized in two novels of 1818 :
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey and Thomas Love Peacock, Nightmare Abbey.
The following novels, among others, show the influence of the gothic tradition :
1860. Wilkie Collins ( 1824-1889 ), The Woman in White.
1864. J. Sheridan Le Fanu ( 1814-1873 ), Uncle Silas.
1868. Wilkie Collins, The Moonstone.
1897. Bram Stoker ( 1847-1912 ), * Dracula .
The gothic influence can also be observed in the Americans *Charles Brockden Brown, Edgar Poe, and Nathaniel Hawthorne, to name only three.
