Internships for Information Technology and Security Academy

Overview:

The ITSA Internship Program is a cooperative relationship between employers, Alamo Colleges, and area public schools to train students in Information Technology and Security. Students are offered on-the-job training, and mentoring in specific career paths. The average student will spend an eight-hour day for eight weeks during the summer between their junior and senior year. Students become members of the business organization’s staff or employees on a temporary basis and may receive wages comparable to entry-level employees. Admission to Internship Program:

In addition to the Internship Program policies outlined in the Internship Guide for Industry Partners and Students, interested students MUST meet/have the following Internship Program admission requirements:

Students applying for the internship program will be notified of their acceptance or non-acceptance status after the admissions process is completed (approximately four to six weeks after application is submitted).

Internship Committee:

The ITSA Internship Committee is comprised of members who represent the computer technology and security industry. The Internship Committee provides guidance, leadership, and resources that are needed to enhance the internship program.

Selection of Internship Sponsors:

The Internship Committee and the ITSA Coordinator/Director collaborate to identify and secure industry commitment for internship sponsorships. The Internship Committee targets profit and non-profit organizations to provide internship opportunities for ITSA students.

 

Selection of Interns:

Intern candidates undergo an interview process with a minimum of two possible industry internship sponsors. The industry internship sponsor will interview, select, and offer an internship position to the intern candidate whom appropriately meets their business needs. Candidates will be notified of their selection or non-selection status by either the ITSA Coordinator/Director or the internship sponsor. Selected candidates will follow the hiring procedures set forth by the industry internship sponsor, who may include: drug testing, criminal background check, and reference check. Students who fail the drug screening will be permanently dismissed from the Information Technology and Security Academy.

 

Non-Returning Students:

Students who are not planning to return to the ITSA program will not be eligible for the Internship Program.

Internships for Alamo Area Aerospace Academy/ Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Academy/ Health Professions Academy

Overview:

The AAAA/ATMA/HPA internship program is a cooperative relationship between employers, Alamo Colleges, and area public schools. Students are offered on-the-job training, and mentoring in specific career paths. The average student will spend an eight-hour day for eight weeks during the summer between their junior and senior year. Students become members of the business organization’s staff or temporary employees and may receive wages comparable to entry-level employees. Each sponsoring company sets its own wage rates.


Admission to the Internship Program:

Students MUST meet the following internship program admission requirements:

The AAAA/ATMA/HPA Internship Committee is comprised of members that represent the aerospace/manufacturing/allied health industries. The Internship Committee provides guidance, leadership, and resources that are needed to enhance the internship program.

The Internship Committee and the AAAA/ATMA/HPA Coordinator/Director collaborate to identify and secure industry commitment for internship opportunities for AAAA/ATMA/HPA students.
