 TITLE:  EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT/SAC
 CLASS CODE:  4328
 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

General Statement of Duties:  Performs work of unusual difficulty in planning, managing, and directing, the operation of the areas of arts and sciences, occupational/technical education, learning resources, extended services, and program development.

Supervision received:  Administrative Direction

Supervision exercised:  Upper level manager

Responsible to:  The President of the College
 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:*

Interprets academic standards and policies of the college to students, faculty, administrators, and the general public.

Serves as chief executive officer in the absence of the President of the College.

Serves as the chief academic and student services officer of the college.

Supervises the activities of the college Deans

Oversees day-to-day operation of the college.

Participates in the development of academic division personnel policies and procedures.

Interviews and evaluates credentials of prospective faculty and recommends salary scale placement of new faculty.

Monitors professional development activities for faculty.

In collaboration with the President, directs the College Institutional Effectiveness function.

Coordinates operation of the office of Executive Vice President with other administrative offices.

Serves on numerous committees within the College and the District.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:

Knowledge of budget development and oversight.

Understanding of the uses of technology in the community college.

Proven skills in organization and management.

Exceptional two-way communication skills, a sense of humor, and a management style that is open and honest.
 
Uncompromising integrity.

Demonstrated ability to delegate authority and maintain accountability.

Demonstrated ability to work with college programs and activities.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Ability to develop consensus and inspire others.

Ability to consider divergent views.

Demonstrated commitment to shared governance.

Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy including Arts and Sciences Education, Professional/Technical Education, Student Support Services, Adult and Continuing Education, and Distance Education as an integral part of a comprehensive community college.

Demonstrated commitment to Institutional Effectiveness and a clear understanding of processes of evaluation.

A commitment to an open enrollment concept and the needs of minority and disadvantaged students.

An appreciation of the important role of developmental education.

An appreciation for San Antonio and its culture.

EDUCATION:

An earned doctorate required.

EXPERIENCE:

Five years of experience in college/university administration.  A preference for three years of supervisory experience at the Dean’s level or above and three years of teaching experience at the college/university level.  Community college experience strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

No extraordinary physical requirements.
