TITLE:  DEAN PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE

Class Code 4358

 

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

 

The Dean for Performance Excellence will direct, lead and organize the College quality initiatives as well as College functions that support service and performance excellence, including planning, research, budgeting, organizational development, resource development, institutional technology, and other college services.  The incumbent will serve as a member of the President’s leadership team and participate in strategic and organizational planning as well as preparation of college-wide and unit budgeting.

 

Supervision Received:  Supervision from President of the College

 

Supervision Exercised:  Upper level manager

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:*

 

            Provide leadership and direction for College quality initiative, using Baldrige Criteria for Education

 

            Direct and manage the following college functional areas:  Planning, Research, and Effectiveness; Resource Development; College Services; Institutional Technology; Purchasing and Inventory

 

            Serve as a member of the College Executive and Leadership Teams

 

            Develop and manage systems and processes for implementing the College strategic plan, for documenting progress, for effective use of data and for learning and service process improvement

 

            Coordinate activities with District offices

 

            Direct and maintain the development, implementation and evaluation of knowledge management systems as well as college policies and procedures

 

            Collaborate with other units in the College to effectively fulfill the mission and vision of the College

 

            Engage in creative problem solving       

 

            Create a culture of service to students, faculty, staff, prospective students, industry representatives, and community members

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT:

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 

Knowledge of organizational performance management approaches and budget development and analysis in an educational environment

 

Demonstrated success in strategic planning, data analysis and process improvement in an education environment as well as success as a team member and team leader/consensus builder

 

Excellent written and oral communication skills along with interpersonal skills to include the ability to understand and cause understanding, motivate, develop, and persuade others

 

Self starter with a high level of self initiative; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and take projects from inception to completion

 

Education:

 

A Master’s Degree is required.  A Master’s Degree in Education or a Business related field is preferred.

 

Experience:

 

Five years experience in a job-related field.  Specifically, the position prefers a minimum of three years of administrative, supervisory, or other leadership experience, preferably in a college setting.  Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:  Strategic planning, budget development, research, continuous quality improvement
