PRIMARY IMPACT:

Completes assigned tasks as requested.

REPORTS TO:  Foreman, Structural Shop

DUTIES:*

1. Unclog commodes, urinals, lavatories, and sewer lines; repair/replace faulty faucets, commode seats, floor drains, and any defective part in a simple plumbing fixture as needed.

2. Assist in installing lavatories, commodes, urinals, natural gas heaters, drinking fountains, faucets, new water lines/drain lines/vents and connection to existing plumbing fixtures.

3. Operate plumbing equipment such as Auger (drain cleaning machine), jack hammers, pipe threaders/locators, torches, hammer drills, and any other handheld plumbing tools/equipment.

4. Assist in the installation and maintenance of space heaters, water heaters, and grease traps.

5. Repair/replace irrigation parts for lawn sprinkler system.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must have basic human relations skills and good oral/written communication skills.

Ability to properly operate equipment such as sewer augers, power tools, jack hammers, pipe threaders/locators, arc welders, acetylene/cutting torches, and various plumbing-related tools.  Must be able to lift 75 lbs.  May be subject to chemical/mechanical hazards and to working in cold/wet/hot/muddy places and under buildings.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must have an apprentice plumber’s license through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and must obtain a Journeyman Plumbing license within 2 years.

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License (must be insurable through ACCD insurers).

JOB EMPOWERMENT

The employee carries out instructions within an existing work routine.  There is some leeway for changing the order of assigned tasks.  However, prior approval is required before changing the nature of the work performed or before dealing with unassigned tasks.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATION

Minimum: A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).

Preferred: A formal training program after high school of approximately one year in duration.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Minimum: One to two years.
