The District Print Shop provides quality offset and process printing, enabling you to choose a wider variety of paper types, colors and sizes and a multitude of colored inks. Offset and process printing also offers you the opportunity to use photographs and special effects to enhance the quality of your printed pieces.

Projects can be printed in one or more custom-mixed Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors. Virtually any color you can imagine can be created for your printed pieces. PLEASE NOTE: if you are preparing your artwork with a computer, do not rely on the display colors of a monitor to match your final piece. Always match your colors with a printed swatch book (available in the District Print Shop), which will show how the colors will reproduce on paper.

Because the requirements for printing are different from those of copying, more planning is necessary. The District Print Shop can help with this process to ensure a quality finished piece. Contact the District Print Shop at 485-0135 for questions.

TERMS TO KNOW FOR PRINTING & DARKROOM SET UP

Knowing a few of these terms can help with the speed and quality of your job:

  • ARTWORK is a general term used to describe photographs, drawings, text and etc. which will be used to produce the final printed piece.
  • BLEED is an excess amount of printed image which extends beyond the edge of the page. When trimmed, the final color/image will continue (bleed) off the page.
  • CAMERA-READY refers to artwork that is ready to process for printing with no further changes. All camera-ready artwork should be on clean, flat paper printed with dark (black) ink.
  • HALFTONE is made by converting a continuous-tone piece of artwork (such as a photograph) into tiny dots of various sizes for most printing presses.
  • COLOR SEPERATIONS are done to enable the printing press to apply one color ink to paper at a time. All shades of one color are placed on a single page, then each separate color is placed on a separate page. The final printed piece will be a composite of all of the separations.
