REASONABLE ACADEMIC PROGRESS

Reasonable Academic Progress

A student will be informed of their RAP Code on the Financial Aid Notification (FAN) sent to them. The FAN will designate RC1, RC2, or RC3. A RC4 will be designated on a Denial Letter. The information that follows describes what each of the these codes signify.

RC1

Academic Progress. Meeting all three of the Reasonable Academic Progress (RAP) demands previously stated in Academic Requirement above. Any SFA is approved for only the initial/intended term or semester awarded.

RC2

Probation Status is due to a student's failure of meeting both of the first two RAP Academic Requirement stated above. This status is the direct result of an insufficient completion percentage of credit hours attempted (less than 65%) or the Grade Point Average (GPA) is below a 2.0. In other words, one of the first two Academic Requirements has not been met. While on Probation Status (RC2), a student may receive financial assistance if the GPA is above 2.0, but must improve during that semester or else potentially lose future eligibility.

RC3

Financial Aid Probation with Conditions! A student who receives a "FINANCIAL AID SUSPENSION" (RC4) notice and is consequently suspended from receipt of SFA program funds may elect to submit a written appeal providing any extenuating circumstances for his/her failure to perform at the academic standard expected at all colleges of the ACCD. To facilitate this process, students may us FORM SFA009: APPEAL on which to provide the SFS office applicable documentation. Any student suspended for failure to complete his/her degree or certificate program in the usual time frame and has accumulated over ninety (90) credit hours must provide a copy of his/her degree plan with an anticipated date of completion. A Financial Aid Notification, marked as "Estimated" for the ensuing Fall/Spring, may be revoked if the student fails to meet academic progress during the preceding summer session(s).

The SFS office will review each appeal on it's own merit. All appeals will receive a reply advising and/or recommending a course of action. If the appeal is approved and the minimum academic requirements are not met while enrolled for the specific enrollment term, All future student financial assistance will be canceled without further consideration. If an appeal is approved, the student's eligibility for SFA maybe conditionally reinstated. However, a student must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to receive a Federal Stafford (Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized) Loan. Consequently, a RC3 is a provisional or conditional status for students to improve their course work completion percentage and/or their GPA.

NOTE: Any student who submits an appeal must be prepared to pay their own expenses for tuition and fees, as well as books and supplies,…PENDING A DECISION…in case the appeal is denied or not approved prior to classes beginning and before the Statement of Account, "Current Due" balance must be paid.

RC4

Financial Aid Suspension! This means a student has failed to complete 65% of all course work attempted and has failed to maintain a 2.0 GPA or has failed to complete their program of study within 90 hours of attempted course work including all transfer hours. A student is no longer eligible for financial assistance, and consequently, all financial aid is CANCELED. Students are not eligible for any student financial assistance, including student loans, while under Financial Aid Suspension. A student placed on Financial Aid Suspension may continue to be enroll but must pay his or her own expenses without the benefit of any student financial assistance.
