Aside from providing opportunities for internships, community service, mentoring, and scholarships, the Student Leadership Institute, also offers potential travel opportunities to Austin, Texas and Washington, D.C.

The Texas Legislature Visit

The legislature visit at Texas' Capitol provides hands-on experiences through the application of communication and leadership skills. Students get a glimpse into the world of politics as they visit the senate and house floors, tour Austin's Capitol, and interact with local and statewide representatives and senators.

The D.C. Experience

The D.C. Experience is the epitome of the SLI program. Student's dedication and hard work may lead them on a weeklong journey to the nation's capitol. While there, students incorporate their knowledge and leadership skills as they interact with influental congressional representatives, fellow peers, and Alamo Community College faculty and staff. The weeklong retreat includes visits to political landmarks such as Capitol, Pentagon, White House, and Library of Congress. This experience also provides May-mester credit opportunities (subject to district approval).
