Don is a long time San Antonio resident after being relocated here by his career U.S. Air Force father. Don started his law enforcement career with the Kirby, Texas Police Department after graduating from the San Antonio College Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1978. In 1981 Don was employed by the Windcrest, Texas Police Department where he spent the next 19 years rising through the ranks to ultimately hold the position of Lieutenant/Patrol Division Commander. In October of 2000 Don came to the ACCD Police Department as its Training Officer. In September of 2001 Don was promoted Deputy Chief of Police – Patrol Division Commander. In 2002 Don became Assistant Chief of Police and in September of 2005 was appointed as Chief of Police.

Don holds Master Peace Officer, Advanced Tele-Communicator and Instructor Certifications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education, is a graduate of the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, a 2003 graduate of San Antonio College and a 2006 graduate of Wayland Baptist University. Don is also an adjunct instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Academy since 1989.
