Erick Akins, District Grants Manager of Grants and Contracts

Erick Akins
District Grants Manager of Grants and Contracts

Erick Akins is responsible for developing and managing the grants program. He monitors and evaluates the implementation of grants procedures and guidelines and suggests appropriate changes and improvements. Erick sets up, coordinates, and audits grant management for all grant recipients and designs the criteria for evaluation of applications. Erick works with grant project directors from across the ACCD in areas of purchasing, human resources, finance, facilities, and any other area relevant to the successful application of grants. Erick's professional experience includes public sectors and non-profit organizations. He has ten years experience with local government, and an additional seven years with non-profits. This experience has allowed him to work with a diverse mix of individuals and organizations. Erick is a native of Chicago, Illinois; and his academic background includes a Bachelor of Music Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a Masters of Arts in Urban Studies from Trinity University in San Antonio.

District Research Specialist of Grants and Contracts

B. J. Callier brings to the ACCD Office of Grants and Contracts more than 30 years of experience in business marketing and administrative experience, much of which she acquired before her retirement from the Southwestern Bell Corporation. B. J. conducts web and other types of research for grant applications, assists in the development of grant proposals and budgets, maintains the grant database, and coordinates with ACCD colleges and provides information to the colleges with feedback, and monitors reporting timelines for grants. B. J. provides data information, and tracks all grants—working, pending, and approved. Additionally, she coordinates travel and special events for the department; she performs all other support duties including conducting purchases, direct-pays, and ordering supplies. B. J. is a graduate of St. Philip’s College.
