Former employees of Levi Strauss recently completed job skills retraining programs at St. Philip's College Southwest Campus and were acknowledged for their achievements in a ceremony held July 16. The former Levi workers were displaced from their jobs when the local Levi manufacturing plant closed in 2004. Individuals were recognized for successfully completing their respective training programs in a broad range of job skills areas, including office skills, home building, plumbing, heating/air conditioning/refrigeration repair, nursing assistant, pharmacy technician, medical assistant and others. Some also completed GED certificate and English as a Second Language programs. The training opportunities were made available to the displaced workers in conjunction with the Alamo Work Source Career Centers.
