Levi Strauss Employees Complete Job Skills Retraining
Programs at SPC Southwest Campus

Former
employees of Levi Strauss recently completed job skills
retraining programs at St. Philip's College Southwest
Campus and were acknowledged for their achievements
in a ceremony held July 16. The former Levi workers
were displaced from their jobs when the local Levi
manufacturing plant closed in 2004. Individuals were
recognized for successfully completing their respective
training programs in a broad range of job skills areas,
including office skills, home building, plumbing,
heating/air conditioning/refrigeration repair, nursing
assistant, pharmacy technician, medical assistant
and others. Some also completed GED certificate and
English as a Second Language programs. The training
opportunities were made available to the displaced
workers in conjunction with the Alamo Work Source
Career Centers.
