At
their regular August meeting, the Alamo Community
College District Board of Trustees unanimously approved
the appointment of Timothy L. Rockey as the new Dean
of Continuing Education at San Antonio College. Former
Dean Ruben Torres recently retired.
For the past eight years, Rockey has served as Information/Advisement
Specialist primarily responsible for conducting operations
for Continuing Education.
"I am very pleased that Tim Rockey has been approved
as the new dean of Continuing Education," said
Dr. Robert E. Zeigler, President.
He added, "Mr. Rockey has outstanding credentials,
having done excellent work in all aspects of continuing
education, as an instructor, recruiter, and administrator.
We are very fortunate to have such an accomplished
person to lead this important division, which is the
largest continuing education operation in San Antonio
and among the largest in the nation."
"Rockey's work in continuing education is impressive,"
said Zeigler. This includes establishing systems for
retrieval and analysis of registration and revenue
data, program development, facilitating state reporting,
establishing a direct mail database, web site design
and development, design and publication of semester
bulletins, and conducting community needs assessments,
among other things.
In response to the Levi plant closure, Rockey designed
and conducted a needs assessment, from which he developed
four customized training programs. He recruited 152
former Levi employees into these programs and generated
revenue of more than $1.4 million in tuition and fees
for San Antonio College.
Previously, he was a program coordinator for Pos Abilities,
Inc. in San Antonio and an instructor at St. Philip's
College, where he developed the initial course syllabus
for GED classes. As a Master Sergeant in the U.S.
Army for 22 years, Rockey served as installation retention
officer, operations officer, instructor, career counselor,
recruiter and tank commander.
Rockey
has also served on college, district, and state committees
and professional associations. He is President of
the Texas Administrators of Continuing Education for
Community and Junior Colleges, serves on the Texas
State Leadership Consortium for Curriculum Development,
Texas Association of Community Colleges' Distance
Learning Advisory Committee and was Vice President
of Administration of the San Antonio Chapter of the
American Society for Training and Development. He
also chaired the Legislative Committee of the Texas
Administrators of Continuing Education for Community
and Junior Colleges.
He earned his B.A. degree from Coker College in South
Carolina and his M.A. in Adult and Community Education
from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.
