The
Alamo Community College District (ACCD) Board of Trustees
approved in-state and in-district tuition rates for
students displaced by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana,
Alabama and Mississippi. In-district tuition rates
at ACCD are one-fourth the rate charged to out of
state students. The emergency agenda item was added
to the board’s Special Meeting agenda on Thursday
night.
“Community
colleges and universities have been severely damaged
by Hurricane Katrina and the Alamo Community College
District stands ready to assist college students who
have been displaced by this catastrophe”, said
Charlie Conner, Chairman of the ACCD Board of Trustees.
The ACCD
Board also authorized Acting Chancellor, Dr. Dan Derrico,
to coordinate the implementation of the program with
the educational institutions of origin of impacted
students. “We will work out the details in the
coming days, but it was important for the board to
make this decision tonight,” said Dan Derrico.
The Alamo
Community College District is the largest higher education
institution in Bexar County with over 50,000 students.
ACCD consists of San Antonio College, St. Philip’s
College, Palo Alto College and Northwest Vista College.
In-district tuition and fees are $616 dollars for
a full semester.
