SPC Academy of Fine Arts to Hold Auditions Sept. 24

The St. Philip’s College Academy of Fine Arts will accept applications and hold auditions for its fall 2005 semester on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Watson Fine Arts Center on the main campus (1801 Martin Luther King Drive). The Academy of Fine Arts is open to area high school and middle school students interested in the serious pursuit of an enriched education in the arts, including art, music and theatre. The Academy for Fine Arts provides tuition-free instruction in theatre, art and music (vocal and instrumental) to students who qualify. Students selected will attend classes on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout the academic year. The fall semester is scheduled to begin Oct. 1.

Students interested in applying and/or auditioning for the Academy of Fine Arts should be prepared as follows. Music program applicants who are musicians should expect to present a short instrumental solo or etude and be prepared to sight read, while vocalists must prepare a song and vocalize. Theatre applicants must prepare a one-minute monologue, and art students should present a portfolio of work for review.
