Performances for the general public are scheduled Nov. 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. each day, and Nov. 6 and 13 at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $10; and $5 for students with a valid student i.d. A special performance for high school students is scheduled Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. for an admission of $3. More information is available by calling 210-531-3321.

“The Royal Hunt for the Sun,” written in 1964, is a play that explores the ‘hunting’ of the Inca Sun God, Atahuallpa, by Spanish Conquistador Francisco Pizarro and his men in the 1530’s. It is a compelling story of greed, ruin, empire and ultimately love, told in a highly theatrical, Shakespearean style.

The play is directed by Vincent Hardy, who premiered two original works, “Angel in Blood, the Nat Turner Rebellion” and “A Place to Stand,” during last year’s St. Philip’s College theatre season. The cast is headed by Eric Lozano, who appeared in last year’s hit “Santos Y Santos” at the Cellar Theatre, San Pedro Playhouse, as well as the play “Female Transport” at the Sheldon Vexler Theatre. Lozano plays the incomparable Pizarro. The part of Atahuallpa is played by Roy Eric Gonzalez, while Evan Boston plays the narrator, Martin. These guest artists are supported by a number of talented St. Philip’s College students.

St. Philip’s College, one of the Alamo Community Colleges serving the greater Bexar County region, is a comprehensive community college designated as both a Historically Black College and a Hispanic Serving Institution.
