Palo
Alto College Benefactor Excelled
in Life
For

Ray
Ellison Sr., founder of a San Antonio-based company
that developed into the largest independent homebuilder
in the United States, has passed away. He was 88.
The
Ray Ellison Charitable Fund, through the San Antonio
Area Foundation, provided a $200,000 grant for the
Family Center at Palo Alto College that bears his
name. The Ray Ellison Family Center is designed to
provide child care and early childhood education to
children of the Palo Alto College community.
Mr.
Ellison was born in Greenville, Texas, and graduated
from Fox Tech High School. He found his calling in
the homebuilding industry in 1949, and started his
business as a small operation that was the beginning
of an illustrious 46-year career that included many
prestigious business awards, including induction into
the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 1986. Mr. Ellison
was the first San Antonian to be so honored.
