The
ACCD’s Employees’ Annual Charitable Campaign
began in earnest at Palo Alto College as coordinators
from various departments on campus gathered to receive
words of hope and encouragement, pledge cards, pamphlets
and pins Nov. 4.
According
to Vincent Bosquez, PAC’s public relations director,
and campus coordinator for the campaign, the purpose
of this year’s drive is to meet genuine and
important needs on campus, and in the local community.
“The
needs during this year’s campaign are great,”
Bosquez said. “Perhaps people can find it in
their hearts to give more than they’ve ever
given before. Or if they’ve never contributed
to a campaign, to do so this year. I’m proud
of how the campus responded to pleas for assistance
during Hurricane Katrina that I know this year’s
campaign will surpass anything we have ever done in
the past.”
This year
there are 13 accounts that directly benefit the college
and its students that donors can choose from when
making a donation. Among them are the Conjunto Program
Scholarship (Code 4413), Palo Alto Presidential Scholars
(Code 4416), the Ray Ellison Family Center (Code 4014)
and the Diane Greene Memorial Scholarship (Code 4414).
Pledge sheets are designed to accommodate as many
as four designations. There are also accounts that
support education at all of ACCD’s colleges,
and accounts for agencies that are served by the United
Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.
PAC’s
campaign is scheduled to end Dec. 2.
“To
thank everyone for their contribution, Dr. Guzmán
(the college president) will be giving each donor
who submits a pledge card their choice of a coffee
mug or glass emblazoned with a PAC logo,” Bosquez
said. “The mug or glass will be given immediately
upon the submission of a pledge card—there’s
no waiting until the end of the campaign to receive
this year’s thank you gift.”
As in past
years, department coordinators will assist the campus
coordinator by distributing and collecting pledge
cards in their department. Bosquez feels their active
leadership role will be vital in inspiring and motivating
faculty and staff members to contribute this year.
In a campaign
overview to all ACCD employees, Dr. Daniel R. Derrico,
Acting Chancellor, said he was proud to support the
ACCD Employees’ Annual charitable Campaign,
proud of each and every member of the ACCD family
that has a part in the success of this important effort.
“…I
want to encourage each and every person to do what
they are able—whether it be a one-time gift
or a 12-month payroll deduction, donating a few dollars
or at a Leadership Society level—to support
our own ACCD Foundation and our very good friends
at the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County,”
Derrico stated.
Leadership
Society recognition pins will be awarded by the ACCD
campaign coordinator in five categories beginning
with the “Alamo Society” for gifts or
pledges from $500 to $999, culminating with the “Alexis
de Tocqueville Society” for gifts and pledges
of $10,000 or more.
