WHAT:
SAC Women’s Center 25th Anniversary Celebration with “Women of Vision” scholarship awards and keynote speaker Gloria Steinem.

The event helps celebrate the SAC Women’s Center 25th anniversary of supporting women, serving community and expanding visions.

Gloria Steinem’s “Empowering San Antonio’s Future Women of Vision” speech is part of the San Antonio College Fine Arts & Cultural Events Series, with additional sponsorship from AT&T.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

6:30 p.m.
Ten “Women of Vision’ Scholarships will be awarded, totaling $25,000, funded by the ACCD Foundation.

7 p.m.
Gloria Steinem presents “Empowering San Antonio’s Future Women of Vision” followed by a brief Question and Answer session.

WHO:
Gloria Steinem was the original publisher of Ms. Magazine, considered “the first national magazine to make feminist voices audible, feminist journalism tenable, and a feminist worldview available to the public,” and continues to be an award-winning magazine today (www.msmagazine.com). Steinem currently sits on the magazine’s advisory board and is still listed in the publication’s Masthead as one of its six founding editors.

A breast cancer survivor, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1993 for her leadership in the women's liberation movement that started with her work in the 1970s to establish the National Women's Political Caucus, Coalition of Labor Union Women, and the Women's Action Alliance.

Books she has authored include: Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions (1983), Marilyn: Norma Jean (1986), Revolution from Within (1992) and Moving beyond Words (1993).
