SAC Announces Availability of the ASCAP Foundation Rudy Perez Songwriting Scholarship

Latino students majoring in Music Business or Music with demonstrated songwriting skills are encouraged to apply for The ASCAP Foundation Rudy Perez Songwriting Scholarship, good for up to $2,000 at San Antonio College.

Complete applications, including an audio CD recording with two original compositions, must be submitted by Friday, September 22, 2006. Information is available on-line at

The ASCAP Foundation, in partnership with the Alamo Community College District Foundation and the San Antonio College Music Business program, funds the Scholarship.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a membership association of over 240000 US composers, songwriters, lyricists, and music publishers of every kind of music. The ASCAP Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to nurturing the music talent of tomorrow, preserving the legacy of the past and sustaining the creative incentive for today's creators through a variety of educational, professional and humanitarian programs and activities which serve the entire music community. Rudy Perez is among the most successful and prolific creators in the fields of Pop and Latin music. During the last 25 years, he has composed more than 600 songs and has written and produced hits for international artists such as Julio Iglesias, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton, Luis Miguel, Luis Fonsi, Christian Castro, Oscar de la Hoya, Jaci Velasquez and Marc Anthony, among others. Mr. Perez has been honored with numerous awards, including the Grammy, ASCAP Songwriter of the Year and the Gospel Music Association Dove Award. By establishing the scholarship program at The ASCAP Foundation, Perez is giving back to the music community by supporting aspiring Latino songwriters.
