San Antonio College's College Access Project for the Corporate and Business Community (CAPC&BC) is currently accepting new companies to participate in this free program.

The project makes college more accessible to employees by bringing to their workplace information about admissions, registration, financial aid, degree and transfer counseling. Many employees have used this free service to enhance their employee training and development benefits.

For example, Don Frame, Assistant Vice President of Citibank NA National Training, Internal Communications Manager, has utilized the CAPC&BC services.

He said that San Antonio College representatives come to Citibank three or four times prior to each semester to encourage his employees to continue their education. "We have one-on-one sessions as well as general information session days and of course registration days," said Frame.

San Antonio College offered Accounting and Spanish classes last spring and will be offering Accounting, Banking Operations and Business Management classes for Citibank employees this fall.

"These classes are the basics that are needed in any banking program, and this knowledge helps our employees in their day-to-day work experience," added Frame, who said that employees have been asking for these courses. An average of 60 students from Citibank have taken classes each semester for the past seven years.

Counselor and CAPC&BC Coordinator Sara Samano said, "The employees we work with are so pleased with the convenience of the program. They don't have to leave work, and we bring the information and a college counselor to them during their break or lunch time."

Samano added, "We serve students seeking to complete a degree, a certificate or even those who already have a degree but want to enhance their resumes. It is even possible to bring a college class to a business site."

Frame concurred: "The main advantages of our relationship with San Antonio College is that the employees do not have to fight traffic and go downtown after a hard day at work. They can simply relax, unwind and catch a bite in our CitiCafe prior to the class."
