ACCD's Southside Community Education Center Hosting 3rd Annual "La Familia Technology Night" Open House

The Alamo Community College District (ACCD) Southside Community Education Center is hosting the 3rd annual "La Familia Technology Night" open house on Tuesday, October 10th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The open house will promote technology workshops and services available to the community.

WHAT: Third Annual La Familia Technology Night “Open House”

WHO: The Alamo Community College District Southside Community Education

WHEN: Tuesday, October 10, 2006, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Harlandale ISD Parent Education Center, Esteban Sosa Building,
901 March Avenue

WHY: To inform the community about technology workshops and services provided at no cost by the center, including: Internet access; assistance with basic computer skills; computer workshops such as Intro to Computers, Keyboarding, WordPerfect MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Explorer; information on ACCD colleges; admissions processing; assesment of skills; financial aid information and processing; assistance with registration; and career exploration.

PHOTO/VIDEO OPPORTUNITIES: Staff members will demonstrate the services available and those attending will have the opportunity to get “hands-on” time with the computers at the center. Many of those in the community served by the center have transportation or other issues that make it difficult for them to visit a college campus or to obtain basic computer skills needed when applying for a job or to qualify them for a job. The center is designed to make needed services available right in the neighborhood.

Carmen de Luna Jones, director of the center, will be avaiilable for interviews about the center’s services in English or Spanish.
