LULAC Parent/Child Scholarship Program Rings in the Holidays with a Read-a-thon

On Friday, December 8th, a group of parents and children from each ACCD college gathered together at the George E. Killen Community Education and Service Center as part of their LULAC Parent/Child Scholarship Program Christmas celebration and the "Scholastic Read for Life: Read for 2007 Read-a-thon." During the event, participants listened to 2007 seconds of reading (33.5 minutes) and pledged to read to their children for at least 2007 minutes during 2007 (approximately 38 minutes per week).

The Parent/Child Scholarship Program is a partnership between the ACCD Foundation, the San Antonio College Women’s Center, and the LULAC Council #2. The program ensures two generations a college education. The parent commits to complete an educational goal, and once attained, the child receives a full scholarship to attend any ACCD college upon high school graduation.
