Student Earns Top Mariachi Vocalist Honors

Palo
Alto College student Stacey Mazuca earned “Best
College Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S.” honors
at Ford Motor Company’s 12th Annual Mariachi
Vargas Extravaganza held at the Municipal Auditorium
Dec. 2.
According
to an event press release, Mazuca was “stunned
and ecstatic” when she was awarded the first
place trophy for her rendition of “Guadalajara,”
touted as one of the most requested songs played by
mariachis.
Mazuca
was competing in the largest and longest running Latin
music event of its kind in Texas. The eight-day music
festival is filled with a series of mariachi events,
including mariachi group and vocal competitions, and
mariachi workshops. The Extravaganza culminated with
a concert featuring Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitian,
which is renowned throughout the international music
community.
Palo Alto
College is a fully accredited community college located
on the Southside, and awards associate degrees, short-term
certificates and offers non-credit continuing education
classes. The college is recognized nationally for
