SUMMARY:
In this Pulitzer Prize winning comedic play set in
1942, two boys are dropped off on their grandmother’s
doorstep so their father can go on an extended sales
trip to pay off some family debt. The boys must contend
with their stern old Grandma, their mentally slow
and quirky Aunt Bella, and their Uncle Louie who probably
has mob connections.
Gradually
the mood deepens as the boys endure life with a family
of emotionally crippled people.
Although the boys eventually escape, the rest of their
sad, funny family is truly lost.
