Trede

Alamo Area Aerospace Academy student Zachary Trede is congratulated by Jose Rivera, SPC Aviation Instructor, on winning the silver medal in the Aviation Maintenance Technology competition at the National SkillsUSA contest.

Alamo Area Aerospace Academy student Zachary Trede was awarded a silver medal in the Aviation Maintenance Technology competition at the National SkillsUSA competition held June 25-30 in Kansas City, Missouri. Previously, Trede placed first in the SkillsUSA State Leadership Competition for Aviation Maintenance Technology Skills contest, which allowed him to advance to the national competition representing Texas. In addition to the silver medal, Trede was awarded Irwin tools and a fully loaded Snap On rollaway tool box.

Trede was a student in the Alamo Area Aerospace Academy at St. Philip's College Northeast site from August 2005 to May 2007. He received a Certificate of Completion in Aircraft Turbines Aircraft Mechanic from st. Philip's College in May 2007. After taking Summer II classes at San Antonio College, Trede plans to attend Texas A&M University—Galveston in the fall to study Marine Engineering Technology.

His SkillsUSA awards are not the first honors Trede has merited. One of the top 25 graduates in his class at Churchill High School, he earned a place on St. Philip’s colleges’ part-time student Honor Roll in Fall 2005, Spring 2006, Fall 2007 and Spring 2007. As part of his academy participation, he interned with the 12th Flying Training Wing at Randolph AFB last summer.

This is the second year in a row that a student from the Aerospace Academy has won the SkillsUSA state competition and gone on to compete at the national level. The Alamo Community Colleges’ academies—Aerospace, Manufacturing Technology and Information Technology and Security—provide education, experience and job opportunities for high school students looking to “jump-start” their future.
