San Antonio, TX (October 23, 2007) — Fulbright scholar, Anna Baltzer, will speak at Northwest Vista College on Thursday, October 25th about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East. Anna Baltzer, a 28-year-old Jewish American and the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees, will present photographs and stories from her work documenting human rights abuses and supporting nonviolent resistance in the West Bank. Baltzer graduated from Columbia University and is currently with the International Women’s Peace Service. Her presentation will cover checkpoints, the Wall, Israeli activism, censorship, nonviolent resistance, and other topics.
“Anna Baltzer’s presentation will shed light on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and offer a perspective that is often left out of mainstream U.S. media,” says assistant professor of sociology, Kara Paige.

This is Baltzer’s second visit to Northwest Vista College. After her appearance at the College in February, Baltzer returned to the occupied territories and updated her book and presentation. She is currently touring the U.S. with a revised second edition of her book, Witness in Palestine: A Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories.
Since Palestine is central to the Middle East conflict, says Paige, “It’s important to have a first-hand account from someone who has worked and lived in the region. Her presentation is moving and thought-provoking, and delivered in a style that will engage the audience and generate important dialog.”
Two presentations are scheduled at Northwest Vista College, free and open to the public:
Thursday, October 25, 2007
9:30a.m. - 10:45a.m. and 11:00a.m. - 12:15p.m.
Banquet Room, Huisache Hall
